Saturday Chatter: Andre Ethier Pacquiao Mosely Kentucky Derby

Andre Ethier - At 30 games will Ethier take down the legend Joe Dimaggio and the record 56 game hitting streak? First he will have to go for the franchise record held by Willie Davis and his 31 game hit streak hit back in 1969. The hits streak has been impressive to start the season with only one game this year did he not get a hit and that was April 1st, since then his bat has been on fire. The hit streak also has 11 games were he has got multiple hits in game. Going long ball has only happened three times, must be looking for contact and not messing up the swing looking for the fences. He has 22 total strikeouts for the season that is one third less than his 66 total hits also impressive. For all fantasy players looking for average .379 for the season should help win a few points. Baseball card collectors should be looking for his 2005 Topps Chrome Auto Refractor for a nice piece of cardboard memorabilia.

Manny Pacquiao - The fight is on! The WBO Welterweight Title Fight is Saturday night in Pacquiao vs. Mosely! The weigh in is final and the fight is due! Manny at weigh in weighed at 145 two pounds lighter that Mosely. Manny is 52-3-2 with 38 knockout wins, that is a lot of power in a 145 pound body. Manny is a 6-1 favorite going into the fight as a 10 time world champion in 8 weight classes will be ready for the showdown. His last fight in Dallas, Texas was a barn burner when he defeated Antonio Margarito by points. The offense is ruthless abandon from the gloves of Pacquiao and with all the fire power behind it the crowd will be behind the champ.

Shane Mosely - The underdog is looking for the big payday and a chance to take out the legend in the sport. Shane has an impressive 46-6-1 record himself. His knockout power is similar in the fact he has 36 knockouts in those 46 wins. His last fight went to a draw with Sergio Mora, so a win is all he has in his sights. The 12 round fight will be a war of two pounders going at it both with powerful punches. This could be a fight for the ages or a quick knockout by either fighter. Mosley is hoping its him and proves he is one of the best!

2011 Kentucky Derby - The favorite Uncle Mo has withdrawn for the derby due to a gastro-intestinal infection giving the field a better chance of winning. If you are an avid horse racing watcher or not the Kentucky Derby is one of the highlight races of the year. The bets are all over the board with chances to win big money is there, but the defeat and money running away like the bad horse pick could also happen. Today we will have all kinds of betters the educated, the sheer blindfolded guess and the ones that like the horses name on the card. The odds makers have their picks and let's take a look at the Top 10 picks and to what they seem likely to happen. So, ladies get your hats out and enjoy the races!

SI Weekly Expansion College Basketball Preview 11.22.2010 Jacob Pullen

This weeks SI Expansion has the 2010-2011 College Basketball Preview. I will be adding a little flair and some quality research behind the already great magazine put out by Sports Illustrated.

Cover:
This issue of SI comes with four different regional covers with four different school programs depicted.
  1. Kansas State with Senior Guard - Jacob Pullen
  2. Duke with Senior Guard - Nolan Smith
  3. Washington with Junior Guard - Isaiah Thomas
  4. Michigan State with Senior Guard -  Kalin Lucas
On the Bench:

1. One of the mini articles had the writings of the Manny Pacquiao verses Antonio Margarito. I was at home and had to watch the fight online with the free internet site tv. I should have gotten tickets to the Deathstar and watched it on Jerry Jones' big screen. It was a fight that was clearly a must see by any boxing fan!

2. Mini Article II: This story has Nascar star Jimmie Johnson going into this weekend 15 points behind Denny Hamlin in The Chase.  The race this weekend at Homestead is the finale. Who will win? I'll take Johnson!

3. Putting the Shoulder Pads On: A menacing picture of the New York Jets offensive line is pictured next and what a sight over 1,500 lbs of green and white coming to line could do to intimidate to a defense. The Jets are looking for Super Bowl Rings in Dallas and with Rex Ryan coaching, LaDainian Tomlinson playing better, and NFL's Sophmore Mark Sanchez fulfilling his hype they have a shot at the Lombardi Trophy.

4. Being from the Dallas area, I can't talk about the NFL and not bring up the newest intern head coach of the Dallas Cowboys - Jason Garrett. Good Luck Jason your gonna need it!

In the Game:

My look at The Men's and Women's 2010 -2011 SI College Basketball Basketball Preview.

Good luck to all six men on their quest for the NCAA Champions!
  • The women's sneak preview has the talents of Amber Harris and Ta'Shia Phillips of Xavier wanting to win the title in their hometown Indianapolis after just missing the Final Four last year they are HUNGRY!
Men's Final Four Picks
  1. Duke - Picked to win it all
  2. Michigan State
  3. Kansas State
  4. Villanova
I will be watching for some true talented men to show us what college athletics is about. Hardwork and dedication to their craft and the schools they reprasent make college baskeball what it is today. College basketball has always been about the school and not the player. When I look back I think about the teams, coaches and what the school stands for more than the name on the players jersey, that is for the NBA.

In Closing: HEY MAILMAN, TAKE BETTER CARE OF MY SPORTS ILLUSTRATED !
