High school football and farming is the life blood of every small town America. When a sports movie comes out that brings out the heart out of everyone living in it, we must see it!

Coach Hand (Kurt Russell) has his work cut out for him in this story about a football player that seems to have it all as the best high school quarterback in the nation. Scott Murphy (Brian Presley) plays the star quarterback looking for the life in college and his heights set for the NFL. A tragic accident blows out the knee trying to win the Ohio state championship game and turns his life upside down. He becomes a struggling farmer trying to make ends meet for him and his wife Macy Murphy (Melanie Lynskey) when the unexpected happened!

The what if you had to do it all over again and the same results could happen or you had the power to change it and life would not turn out the same. Would you risk or gamble your life to try and make it better and have the possibility that the change is different and what you thought you wanted was not making you as happy as the life you left behind?

The cast's biggest star is diffently Kurt Russell, unless "Two and a Half Men" star Rose is your thing!

The lead really is Kurt Russell and sports movies have a little history! His gridiron acting days in a football movie with another funny actor Robin Williams had the flashback storyline reliving a game to put fears and blunders to rest in "The Best of Times"!  His best overall sports movie had to be the classic "Miracle" the ultimate hockey movie that showed the USA beating the Soviets in the 1980 Olympics an epic film. He played coach Herb Brooks that gave every hockey player and American hope on and off the ice. But, it all started in his Disney days as Dexter Riley in "The Strongest Man in the World" when he lifted 1111 pounds to win it for Crumply Crunch and Medfield!

GOON

Can Doug Glatt played by Seann William Scott, the bouncer who has his fists touched with super-human powers and learns how to skate create enough onscreen chemistry with hockey fans to spur an epidemic and a flood of NHL fan wannabees to start showing up to the rink? Will the movie Goon take a swing and miss leaving it in the minor league hockey rink it's played on in the movie? The action will be very violent to say the least so be ready for a fight that is the meat with some hockey as the potatoes of the movie. The ice battles promise to be very graphic and bloody.

A whole mess of trouble shows up on the ice since he and his friend Ryan (Jay Baruchel) team up to create a hilarious storyline. The movie directed Michael Dowse added to the cast funnyman actor Baruchel so that he will bring the raunchy humor to the scenes that can be vulgar and offensive to some moviegoers. Remember the "Knocked Up" movie, so guess that explains that?

The canadian raised actor/director must have hockey in his blood as he wore a Pittsburg Penguins jersey in "She's out of my League".

Out of my league is not the case for co-star, leading lady and newly engaged actress with huge hockey ties as fan living in Canada  Alison Pill playing Eva, the love interest in the movie.

Okay enough of the gushy stuff....The real action is between Glatt and Ross Rhea played by Liev Schreiber who lives in Canada, see the theme.

An enforcer in his heyday, beating people up a plenty to find out the game beat him up looks to revitalize his life on the ice and meets Glatt to find out if he still has the goods.

The movie brings another aspect to light and that is Doug Smith the original goon. The movie is an adaption based on an autobigraphy of Doug Smith in Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey is about a Massachusetts native that gives up boxing for the paycheque and the glory.

The hockey faithful has needed this film since Miracle on Ice in 1981 where it had non hockey fans watching hockey!

But, what these fans that come to see Goon will want 1971's Slap Shot and The Hanson Brothers for all its humor, vulgarity and blood!

Like all slapstick comedies in this era it will also carry plenty of hockey babes for the 18-30 demographics like these!

Wanted to be a little creative and bring these two great baseball men together and show their links to baseball and their similarities in them.  

Charlie Sheen as Rick Vaughn and Bob Uecker as Harry Doyle in "Major League" was a comedic stepping stone for both as actors in a baseball movie. The movie become a classic in the ranks of all time baseball movies. It wasn't the first for Sheen "Eight Men Out" was another classic role as he played as Happy Felsch.

Bob Uecker played in Major League I, II and III: Back to the Minors but, he was famous for his Hall of Fame baseball broadcasting. He was the "Voice of the Brewers" which he started in 1971. Take a look at him on the David Letterman Show telling his story!




There is also some relationship with drugs and alcohol albeit there is a difference between the two and how they have handled them. Charlie took the rough road!

How about side kicks! Charlie had Alan Harper (Jon Cryer) and Angus T. Jones (Jake Harper). Bob Uecker (Harry Doyle) had the infamous Skip Griparis (Monte)

I would like to leave you with a little actual baseball footage!

Ok, Uecker had a career that was void of footage due to a .200 batting average over his career. But, he did help Hank Aaron!

Premiering on FX is a drama depicting a boxer Patrick Leary, actor Holt McCallary plays. The storyline has Patrick an ex heavyweight champion struggling to support his family a wife Theresa Leary, played by Catherine McCormack. The despair comes from bad turns financially as wrong turns and bad investments left him to make tough choices. The biggest choice to return to the ring and fight with his father Robert "Pop" Leary, Stacy Keach starring, helping as trainer or become a menecing debt collector. The jury is out on how this will go?
