2012 NFL AFC Wild Card Playoff Matchup: Pittsburg Steelers vs. Denver Broncos

Sunday, 4:30 p.m. ET, Sports Authority Field
Quarterback play in this game from both the Pittsburg Steelers and the Denver Broncos will be an unknown! The outcomes could be so different than expected it could switch during mid-game at anytime. Starter Big Ben Roethlisberger is nursing an ankle injury and could sit out some of the game if it flairs up. His numbers in this season of injury still netted 4,077 yards and usually plays well hurt. Playoff and post season magic for the two time Super Bowl winner needs to strike again for Pittsburg at the quarterback position. Could Charlie Batch and his 208 yards and no touchdowns with one interception see some time under center?
"Tebow Time" in Denver! Will the home crowd and high altitude give the advantage to the run offense at the unorthodox quarterback position. Tebow will be running for his life if the #1 ranked Steeler defense only giving up 99.8 yards rushing lead by Troy Polamalu puts the brakes on in the trenches. We have seen the erratic play all year from Tim Tebow will Brady Quinn get the coaches nod if the defense allows Pittsburg to get a two touchdown lead? It is Sunday?

Quaterbacks
Advantage  - Steelers
Roethlisberger
Tebow
Batch
Quinn
The Steelers are banged up at running back with Rashard Mendenhall out with a knee injury we will see Isaac Redman (110 carries, 479 yards and 3 touchdowns) and rookie John Clay (10 carries, 41 yards and 1 touchdown) carrying the pigskin. Denver's rush defense gave up 126.3 yards per game regular season, they will need all of it to help pull off the win.
Either a busted play or a designed play still leads to rushes for Tim Tebow. Tim's 122 carries for 660 yards dictates he is the second option in the rushing game. Denver's weapon on the goal line is Tim Tebow he scored six rushing touchdowns the same amount of touchdowns that were passed by Tebow. Carrying the load will be Willis McGahee who lead the team with 249 carries for 1199 yards. He only scored four rushing touchdowns giving way to Tebow. McGahee could be the leading rusher in this game given his talent. The tandem did set a franchise record of 2,632 yards rushing during the regular season. Could the match up be too tough for the new age "Steel Curtain".

Running Backs
Advantage - Broncos

Redman

McGahee
The big play offense of the Steelers is in the two 1000 yard receivers Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown. Wallace had 72 receptions with 18 of them over 20+ yards. He put up 1193 yards and lead the receivers with eight touchdowns. Brown was just as effective with 69 receptions and also 18 catches with 20+ yards per grab. He netted out 1108 yards and two touchdowns. Big Ben will be looking downfield to light up the porous secondary of the Broncos who allow 231.5 yards per game.
The unknown in the game will be who will be under center and for how long? This could alter the game plan and how well Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas plays a factor in this game. Both are capable receivers that can get it done if given the opportunity. Decker had only 44 receptions and 612 yards, but did scored eight times this season. Thomas was less effective with just 32 receptions and 551 yards and four touchdowns. Thomas's big play ability of 17.2 yards per catch could bring attention his way IF the Steelers elect to stop the run.

Wide ReceiversHuge Advantage - Steelers

Wallace
Decker

Brown
Thomas

Could not give a good analysis of these two teams without looking into the defenses. We could see anything in this game from the offense because of the defenses.
Pittsburg Steelers have held a league-low three touchdowns in the last six games. They have Troy Palamalu's presence and will be getting back linebacker LaMarr Woodley and losing safety Ryan Clark and center Maurkice Pouncey. Passing against (171.9), rushing against (99.8) and total yards against (271.8) has to have John Fox shaking in his shoes.
Denver Broncos are no slouches on defense they kept the offense on the field most of the season and look to disrupt the passing offense of the Steelers. With Brian Dawkins out with the neck injury look to Wesley Woodyard, team leader in tackles with 97, and Von Miller, team leader in sacks with 11.5 to keep the interior honest to allow Champ Bailey and Andre' Goodman to seal the secondary and stay away from the big play!
Defense wins in the playoffs!
Defenses
Advantage - Steelers
Palamalu
Miller
Woodley
Bailey
Prediction Steelers 27 - Broncos 6
