Baseball Babe #92 Honors Derek Holland Texas Rangers Signs 5 Year $28.5M

Derek Holland will avoid free agency in 2015 in case your were wondering if the 25 year old young arm was staying in a Texas Rangers uniform or taking the low road like C.J Wilson and head for greener(money) pastures (Angels).

The deal Derek Holland signed with the Texas Rangers will be a gradual increase in his riches.
This year $1M, $3.2M next year, $5.4M in 2014, $7.4M in 2015 and finally $10M in 2016 with Texas holding the club option at $11M with a $1.5M buyout. If the club option is picked up the in 2017 there will be another for 2018 with an $11.5M option and another $1M buyout.
Last year going 16-5 which was the most wins by a Ranger before the age of 25 years old even after the 2010 injury season due to rotator cuff surgery!
Clutch in the playoffs may be one of the reasons Nolan Ryan and Jon Daniels decided on signing him before he got away. He is 3-0 in postseason with a 3.82 ERA in 12 postseason appearances.
